Trump’s Outrageous and Racist Treatment of Haitians Continues
Yesterday DHS announced that Haiti’s designation for Temporary Protected Status will now end on August 3, 2025, not on February 3, 2026 as previously scheduled. This outrageous decision is completely unwarranted by conditions in Haiti; extremely disruptive to communities, families, and workplaces; and continues President Trump’s long history of anti-black and anti-Haitian racism.
The announcement also threatens to send thousands of TPS holders to horrific conditions in Haiti that the United States helped generate. (DHS must announce whether or not it will extend the designation beyond August 3 by 60 days in advance of that date, i.e. June 4.)
President Trump’s attempt to end Haiti’s TPS designation during his first term was met by litigation by IJDH and allies which succeeded in preserving it, and the same collaboration is preparing once again to act appropriately.
As before, we stand in solidarity with Haitian American and immigrant communities against continuing illegal actions by the Trump Administration.
