Overview

In the wake of the Jan­u­ary 12, 2010 earth­quake in Haiti, IJDH imme­di­ately began advo­cat­ing for a human rights-based approach to aid. We called for fair aid poli­cies that keep Haitians’ human rights at the cen­ter of all relief efforts. Together with our part­ners, we have urged a rights-based approach before Con­gress, before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, before the UN Human Rights Coun­cil, and we con­tinue advo­cat­ing for a just response to the earth­quake wher­ever deci­sions about Haitians’ lives are made.
